LAUNCHED IN 2020, STICKY RICE MAGAZINE IS DEDICATED TO PROMOTING INTERCULTURAL UNDERSTANDING BY HIGHLIGHTING THEEXPERIENCES OF DIASPORIC CANADIANS OF ASIAN DESCENT. THE MAGAZINE SPARKS CONVERSATIONS ABOUT WHAT IT MEANS TO BEASIAN-CANADIAN, WITH A PRIMARY FOCUS ON COLLECTIVE GROWTH. THROUGH ESSAYS, INTERVIEWS, AND VARIOUS CREATIVE FORMSOF EXPRESSION, STICKY RICE FOSTERS AN ONGOING DIALOGUE ABOUT IDENTITY AND CULTURE.

THE PROJECT BEGAN AS A PASSION PROJECT BY A GROUP OF FRIENDS SEEKING TO HAVE FUN AND CONNECT WITH LIKE-MINDEDINDIVIDUALS, AND IT NOW WELCOMES CONTRIBUTIONS FROM ANYONE WHO ALIGNS WITH ITS MISSION.

INSPIRED BY THE MAGAZINE’S MOTTO, “AFTER ALL, WHEN COOKED RIGHT, STICKY RICE EXPANDS AND HOLDS TOGETHER,” THECUSTOM TYPOGRAPHY DRAWS FROM MULTIPLE ELEMENTS OF ASIAN CULTURE: THE SHAPE OF RICE GRAINS AND THEIR EXPANSION,KANJI-STYLE CHARACTERS, AND THE NEON TUBES COMMONLY SEEN ACROSS VARIOUS ASIAN COUNTRIES.
